Acute diverticulitis in the young adult

Seven cases of acute diverticulitis in patients 35 years of age or younger are presented. This disease is not rare in young adults. There seems to be a higher incidence in males and an increased need for surgical intervention when younger individuals are affected. The barium enema is useful in confirming the diagnosis.
