From the Editor |
Index terms: Editorials Radiology (journal)
Although the January 1998 issue of Radiology was my first as Editor, the transition of the editorship from the former Editor, Dr Stanley S. Siegelman, to me began in July of 1997. One of my self-assigned tasks at that time was to revise the Publication Information for Authors guidelines, which appear at the end of the front section of the "A" pages and just before the lead item in each issue of the Journal. Those revised guidelines were published in the August 1997 issue of Radiology.
With the September 1999 issue, we are publishing yet another extensive revision of these guidelines based on the experience of our Deputy Editors, that of our manuscript editors and production assistants in our Oak Brook office, and my own experience. In addition, our efforts to constantly improve and expedite the process of producing each issue of the Journal using modern techniques has mandated a number of changes.
These guidelines are meant for use by our authors. In addition to informing authors of the desired format for the submitted manuscript, the guidelines also inform authors of several of our policies and procedures regarding processing of their manuscripts. If authors follow these guidelines carefully, the processes of assigning the reviewers for a given manuscript, reviewer evaluation of that manuscript, decision by the Editor, manuscript revision(s), review by the Deputy Editors, final acceptance by the Editor, processing by the Editor for transmittal to our Oak Brook office, editing by our manuscript editors, processing of illustrations by our production staff, and approval of the edited manuscript by the authors will all be expedited. The additional layers of review that have been implemented in the Radiology Editorial Office in Richmond, Va, often uncover a number of items that require revision and thereby extend the process of manuscript evaluation. Many of these items are simply due to the authors not having followed the Publication Information for Authors guidelines.
The modifications and additions that compose the revised Publication Information for Authors appearing in this issue are numerous. Some of the major ones include the following:
We encourage our authors to follow these revised guidelines, so as to expedite the processing of their manuscripts.
